When I started this website, I didn’t add a blog.
“I’m going to write a newsletter,” I said. “I already post on social media, I can make devlogs on my Itch page, what could I possibly want with a blog? What could I possibly have to say that’d be useful to the Outside World as a blog?”
But as the months went on, the reality was this: I just want one.
I want a place to share play-throughs for games I love, reviews of games I’m reading, explorations of my own personal game design work, thoughts on the creative writing process as I draft my novel, and maybe even the occasional writing exercise.
And I don’t want to save it all up for a newsletter that I may or may not remember to send out – I want the newsletter to be for news! (And that might mean linking to some blog posts, which no one is going to make a big deal about, right?)
In the last few years of game design, I have come to the conclusion that I make games and writing projects as gifts to myself. The fact that I am lucky enough that other people like my work and are interested in reading what I create is both a compliment and a privilege – and I think I’m going to treat this blog the same way.
So if you’re here, and you like what you’re reading, that makes me very happy! But don’t get too used to any one type of thing on here, because the unifying factor is simply that I wrote these posts out of my own brain. They’re not going to be SEO optimized, they’re not always going to be super refined and edited.
At the end of the day, the reality is: If I put too many parameters on what this blog can be, I will probably never post on here. I’m still figuring out how to categorize it all, so this is going to be a blog-in-progress for a while.
And if we’re being honest, I made this post so I’d have a test post to play with and could delete the WordPress test posts.
